The Magical Night Market casts a spell over York’s Historic Shambles Market

On Bank Holiday Monday, 26 May, the Magical Night Market transformed York’s iconic Shambles Market into a bustling hub of enchantment, bursting with street food, artisan crafts, and spellbinding entertainment. Hundreds of visitors braved the weather to immerse themselves in a wizardry-themed evening that blended culture, creativity, and community spirit.

Hosted by Make It York and part of WizardFest, the event invited families and fans of all ages to wander through over 30 local traders – offering everything from handcrafted treasures to delicious culinary delights, all under the canopy of magic.

Adding to the weekend’s enchantment was WizardFest, a family-friendly spectacular running from 24 to 26 May, supported by Make It York and led by the acclaimed Wizard Walk of York. Making its debut in the city, the festival brought spell craft, storytelling, and a host of magical moments to the streets – drawing crowds and sparking imaginations.

Lisa Grimbley, Head of Markets & Events at Make It York said:

“The Magical Night Market was truly an evening to remember and we’re proud of the team, who worked incredibly hard to bring this event to life. We’re absolutely thrilled with the turnout and the fantastic feedback. Seeing our community come alive, embracing the magical theme in every sense – despite the rain – was something special.”
