The Visit York Visitor Information Centre will relocate to a new city centre home from 1 August 2026.
Managed by Make It York, the Visit York Visitor Information Centre is moving from its current premises at 21 Parliament Street to 28 Back Swinegate, just 140 metres, less than two-minutes, away. The new Visitor Information Centre will open on Saturday 1 August, coinciding with Yorkshire Day celebrations in the city.
While the team moves to the new location between 27 and 31 July, a pop-up presence will be available on Parliament Street from 27 to 31 July, helping visitors and residents access information during the move. Check Visit York’s social media channels for the latest updates and opening details throughout the week.
Sarah Loftus, Managing Director of Make It York, said: “We’re delighted to be moving to our new home and look forward to welcoming everyone into the new space. The new premises will allow us to provide an even better experience while continuing to offer the expert advice, friendly service and local knowledge that our team is known for.”
Enhanced new space
The larger premises will provide an enhanced space to welcome visitors and residents while continuing to offer the same trusted services that have made the Visitor Information Centre an essential first stop for exploring the city and beyond.
The new location remains centrally positioned, easily accessible, and only a short way from the current premises. It offers additional space whilst maintaining a strong city-centre presence that will enable the team to showcase York’s events and attractions more effectively in a welcoming environment.
About the Visit York Visitor Information Centre
Open seven days a week, the centre remains the go-to destination for expert local information, helping visitors and residents make the most of York and the surrounding area.
The friendly and knowledgeable team consists of tourism specialists and dedicated volunteers, offering personalised recommendations on attractions, events, dining and things to do, helping everyone plan the perfect stay.
Visitors can also pick up a wide range of free maps, guides and brochures, as well as being an official ticketing hub for many of York’s leading attractions and experiences, in addition to transport tickets. It’s also the place to get the Visit York Pass, the city’s official sightseeing pass.
Alongside visitor information, the centre’s shop showcases a carefully selected range of locally made gifts and souvenirs, offering the perfect opportunity to take a piece of York home.
More information about the new centre will be shared ahead of the opening. We look forward to welcoming visitors and residents to 28 Back Swinegate from 1 August.
