Make it York is responsible for the Shambles Market and other speciality markets, based in the centre of York. The Shambles Market is a historic and vibrant market and is home to York’s largest group of independent traders. With more than 70 stalls, the market is a one-stop shop for everyone’s shopping needs including quality gifts, fresh flowers, crafts, handbags, fresh produce and much more. The Shambles Market also hosts its very own food court – a central hub filled with street food delights and live music. It is also the winner of ‘Best Outdoor Market’ category at the 2022 Great British Market Awards, organised by The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).
These newly created posts will support Shambles Market and the Make it York’s offices, by undertaking reactive repairs and maintenance, cleaning, electrical testing, litter picking, waste collection, recycling and trader relations.
The post holders will inspect Market Stalls and food units, recording findings, and collaborating with management to meet health and safety and electrical compliance needs, and will prioritise customer satisfaction by meeting trader, customer and partner expectations.
Along with joining a company passionate about the City of York, covering seven days a week, including occasional evenings, we will offer a competitive salary circa £23,000, 28 days holiday, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time staff), excellent training opportunities and private health care scheme.
