Science City York (SCY) was the UK’s founding Science City. In the 16 years since then SCY has helped to create more than 100 businesses, to secure more than £30 million of investment and has worked collaboratively with hundreds of businesses in and around York.
Although SCY is now part of Make It York, the core principle of SCY remains the same : to support three key networks – bioscience, creative and IT & digital. SCY still has a separate advisory board, chaired by Chris Danks, with representatives from both universities and the Living in York.
As well as ensuring the SCY networks continue to flourish, SCY is currently heavily engaged with 4 key projects:
- A European funded £700k gamification app, aimed at enriching the tourist experience in York
- Leading the organisation of Venturefest Yorkshire, a major business festival for innovators , entrepreneurs and investors
- In partnership with FERA, working on a £1.7 million, European funded project to offer business support for agrifood companies
- The UNESCO City of Media arts accreditation.
